Jang Design Art is pleased to present 《Rendering Mind》, a solo exhibition of Sanghee Park from July 12th (Tue) to August 6th (Sat). Park Sang-hee's work has been working on expressing complex emotional experiences such as anxiety and anticipation for the future that modern people have through boldly expressed color cross-sections, division of various aspects, and a single character. .
Park Sang-hee's canvases are largely divided into color fields, figures, and artifacts. The simple but bold composition of the color field delivers intense visual stimulation to the audience, and the characters we can easily encounter in everyday life realistically and honestly describe the appearance of modern people. Unlike the background, which is matted with acrylic, the characters are expressed in oil, giving vitality to the characters by contrasting their physical properties on the canvas. Artifacts that do not fit behind the calm background move the viewer to another world and meet a new world, and through this, the artist expresses his longing, longing, and earnestness for an unknown place.
Among the works in this exhibition, the swimming pool series is characterized by diagonal division of non-restrictive surfaces, intense color contrast, and characters with back or expressionless faces. The characters in the work represent the loneliness of modern people in a complex and rapidly changing fiercely competitive society, and the repeated appearance of an artificial swimming pool expresses longing for nature. The characters seem to be taking a break, but they have anxiety and anticipation for a new and unfamiliar world at the same time, conveying various emotions to the audience.
The run series is the first work to be introduced in this exhibition, and the artist expresses a desire to go somewhere in the current situation where he is tired of escaping from the existing swimming pool frame. A figure whose direction he is running arouses curiosity in the viewer and creates a sense of space beyond the canvas. The characters are performing dynamic actions, but the artist creates a sense of heterogeneity by capturing a static image as if time has stopped, and the characters running alone create an overall sense of desolation and unfamiliar atmosphere.
Looking at Park Sang-hee's work, the character in the work seems to be me, and the background in the work makes me feel as if I am traveling to another world. Through this exhibition, I hope that you will experience a journey to grow yourself and meet a new me through the fresh stimulation of the unfamiliarity of the new world in the work.
