JEAN DESIGNART l PRESS RELEASE

JEAN DESIGNART, March 28 Suh Yongsun 《I SEE YOU》

JEAN DESIGNART is pleased to present I SEE YOU, a solo exhibition of Seo Yong-sun from March 28 (Tue) to April 22 (Sat). For artist Suh Yongsun, cities, and people have been the main objects of his attention since the beginning of his work. In particular, since 2009, the artist has drawn out various cities around the world and broadened his perspective as an artist and a human being, and city dwellers are expressing the artist's irresponsible interest in humans through various types of landscapes.

In this exhibition, major works by city and period from 2010 to recent years will be displayed along with new works in New York in 2022 and 2023. Metropolitan landscapes around the globe, such as New York, Standards, and Cutters in Life, are filled with human beings living with their bodies. This exhibition, which penetrates the times of Egypt, conveys the artist's passion for art to breathe and develop with his contemporaries without being complacent, and the humanistic reflection on the essence of personality without income from the viewer.

“People are limited in their movement in public transport, which is ideal for slow speeds. Finally, but I think people focus on it or spend their time in their own way with suits.”

In particular, the new artist sees and experiences a subway-like space where people who have directly fought the war of life go back to cleaning, and through the process, he unravels the normality of modern people who live disconnected from not only others but also the top. By connecting a USB port to the subway on the way home, he sees people immersed in their own thoughts and delivers the artist's guide as a picture.

In Suh Yongsun's work, his face is highlighted, drawing a large figure and finishing it with strong lines and emphasizing it. Replica The reproduced background is a realistic expression and at the same time a practical expression of the dense space of a reduced-size city and the repeated life of city dwellers. Such a background performs the function of showing the situation or space where the character is located, and finally, all eyes are focused on the face of the character, and Suh Yongsun's city series becomes the wounds of city dwellers. Ironically, however, the expression on the face of an urbanite is unlikely.

The red color that often appears in the artist's works is recognized as a vivid color because the artist overdoes it. In the errand part work, only the lines that do not become red are listed. To him, the expression of a person in red is an expression of the city dweller's challenge and will to maintain his life in the harsh life of the city, and the artist's time to report the science and essence, rather than seeing what is visible. Also, red is a color that expresses the sorrowful appearance of modern people who have to hide their place and keep it unnoticed while extending it.

Various urban landscapes such as New York's subway, fountain streets, and square cafes depicted by the artist are rebounding with the illusions and realities of city dwellers who gather and dream various dreams. The artist's city series, which records today, is a self-portrait of city dwellers and ends with the history of city dwellers. An opportunity to think about the city dwellers of the past through the eyes of an artist has recently arisen.

Suh Yongsunn (b. 1951)

Suh Yongsunn deals with a wide range of subjects, including people, cities, landscapes, history, wars, and myths, but in particular, there are series of paintings depicting groups of people in cities and historical paintings that realize historical events. The interest in the time of history leads to the interest in the space of the city and the people in it, which momentarily stimulates the tightly structured composition of the screen and dramatically expresses the irrational existence of city dwellers wandering around and the situation they find themselves in.
