Wanderlust
June 7 - July 2, 2022

Erminjang Gallery is pleased to present 《 Wanderlust 》, a solo exhibition of artist Baek Yoon-jo from June 7th (Tue) to July 2nd (Sat). Baek Yoon-jo is an artist who draws visual rhythmic feelings on canvas through the composition of words or shapes inspired by objects and people encountered in daily life based on a doodle-style painting method that draws like scribbles.

Baek Yoon-jo has transformed images inspired by everyday landscapes, such as objects and people he encounters around him, on canvas using rhythmic visual language. The shapes of objects and characters that stayed in the artist's memory were captured in colorful colors and harmonious compositions. The artist expresses a person's face and even the sense of rhythm of a person according to the flow of unconsciousness.

In this exhibition, the 'Walk' series, which was inspired by the act of walking, the 'Face' series, which humorously captures the movements of people, and the patterned 'Doodle' series, which allows you to discover the balance of freedom and moderation at the same time. doodle)' series, etc.

The 'walk' series and the 'face' series are the artist's representative figurative works, expressing the sense of rhythm of the characters. The 'Walk' series is a work based on his autobiographical experience, and is a painting that sensibly expresses the figure of a person walking forward. Among the work series presented in this exhibition, the work of <go out> is expressed with the feeling of the artist's self-portrait. In the studio where the corona situation continued, the artist expressed his desire to go somewhere while only painting, through his work.

In the 'Face' series, the appearance of a person facing an unexpected situation was momentarily captured and composed into a series of screens. Through transformation and distortion, not ordinary portraits, he created an abstract feeling by emphasizing the dynamics of movement rather than the clarity of the subject. The Shake of the 'Face' series expresses the act of looking somewhere, the act of calling someone and looking back, the act of finding something, and the act of saying no in a series of motions. As such, in the 'face' series, it can be seen that the action of the character has changed more actively.

And the 'doodle' series focuses on the creator's actions that reveal the harmony and conflict between the context of objects and the newly created image through the artist, taking images of objects that the artist sees in everyday life as icons. Like the rhyzome phenomenon, the form of doodle work starts somewhere and is filled in the form of roots giving birth to roots. In this way, the artist expresses freedom through repetition, starting with a simple motif.

On the screen of artist Baek Yoon-jo's work, we want to convey the tranquility and specialness of everyday life through everyday scenes of walking or standing. Erminjang Gallery proposes to find happiness in daily life by moving directly, rather than just watching and looking at, in living a life of step-by-step like the characters in Baek Yoon-jo's paintings.
